How To Shrink a Hard Disk Partition in Windows 7

Shrinking a volume is a good option if you don’t have the necessary space to create a new volume/partition. To shrink an existing drive in your hard disk using Windows 7 follow the step by step instructions below:

Step 1: Right Click the “Computer” folder (Computer folder can be found in the start menu/on the desktop) and then click “Manage”.

Step 2: Now you will see a window as shown below. Click on “Disk Management” option.

Step 3: The window you will see in this step will display all the partitions that you already have on your system. Right click on any of existing partitions (which you need to shrink). Click on the “Shrink Volume” option.

Step 4: The next window will ask you how much space to shrink from the existing partition. Enter the required shrink volume and click “Shrink”.
Now your volume will be shrinked into a smaller one, and you can use the free space to create a new partition on your hard disk.
